Still In Texas

Here are a few more pictures of sights as we traveled through Texas. These were taken on the East side of Amarillo.

We figured out what these windmills were for after seeing them all over and usually with a gathering of cows around them. Apparently they are used to power a pump which provides water for the cattle.

At 1:30 pm, we entered Amarillo. We had figured Amarillo to be our half way point and had planned to stay the night here. But since we made such great time, we decided to make a few stops here, but then head on to Albuquerque to stay the night.

There was a patient where I worked to tell me about a really Welcome Center to stop at in Amarillo. We found it and stopped there. They had several photo ops and some great air conditioning inside! The lady working there was really nice and gave the kids some "Texas" material for their scrapbooks. She also showed me on the map how to get to our next destination.

Cadillac Ranch! I had read about this on a blog and really wanted this to be one of our stops. The kids were pretty psyched up too about seeing some half buried cars. They were right out in the middle of a cow pasture with nothing else around.

There was a little gate to walk through and then you just head out into the pasture. The lady at the Welcome Center told us that they not only allow graffiti, but they also encourage it. She told me where I could stop to buy spray paint, however we found a half used bottle of it there on the ground.

You have to look close to see where Annessa sprayed her intials ADW on there. She's pointing to it. Since her initials are the same as the other children, we figured that was enough of a mark to leave there.

As we were leaving the Cadillac Ranch, we saw this sign on one of the side roads and it made me laugh.
Next stop: Albuquerque!
