The Guess Where We Are Going RoadTrip

Well, we are at it once again. We have always enjoyed taking road trips together in the past. And this has been a useful way to journal about each trip we have gone on. Each trip has been different, of course, and this one is definitely going to be different as well. For starters, it will only be Daniel, myself and Amelia taking this trip. Seems as though our other kiddos have grown up and become (or trying to become) responsible adults so things like work and family come into play. Secondly, this trip we have a camper and so we are using it to travel with and to stay in as we go. We have not taken it on long trips before, so this will be an experience for us for sure. But probably the most different thing about this trip is that we have not planned it out. If you know me, you know I'm a planner. And if you know anything about our last trip, it was planned out all the way down to where we would stay, how long we would drive, where we would eat and what we planned to see. THIS road trip is all Daniel Wrenn. He did not want me to plan it all out. He wants to just go and plan it as we go. So there you have it.

We started this trip today, Sunday, July 6 but we just finished up camping with most of the family over the holiday weekend in Tims Ford State Park, Winchester Tennessee. So after packing it all up pretty early this morning, we headed out. We drove for a little while before stopping in Shelbyville, Tennessee to eat breakfast at probably one of the most efficient Huddle Houses we have ever been to. After that we drove further north to Franklin where we stopped and worshipped with the Franklin church of Christ. We enjoyed speaking to many of the friendly members there. After our time there, we started on our way again. Because we are pulling the camper, and we are driving Daniel's 1999 Chevy to pull it, we have opted to try to take the "more scenic routes" and not travel on the interstates if feasible. He planned out a route for us to take with our final destination for the day to be Paducah, Kentucky. It was a nice drive with shady trees for the most part and lots of pastures along the way.

It was pretty interesting to be in the countryside areas that seemed like the middle of nowhere and then suddenly we came into Cumberland City and there was a TVA plant beside the Cumberland River with two huge smoke stacks and quite large facility that we drove right between it and the river. Shortly after that and a stop to refuel, we entered the Land Between The Lakes National Recreational Area. That was also kinda neat, especially since it was unplanned and if we had been on the interstate, we wouldn't have gone through it.

We were able to see the Kentucky Lake on the other side of the "land mass". Finally, we landed in Paducah at a pretty nice RV park, Duck Creek. We were thankful to get the camper hooked up and air turned on so we could rest up a bit. Once it cooled off some, we left the park to go find the historic downtown and riverfront area. We saw where the Tennessee River and Ohio River meet up, several barges on the river and even a pretty large river boat. It was a pretty downtown area and we enjoyed our walk.

We have all showered, eaten, washed some laundry and ready to head out in the morning, pretty early so that we don't have to drive in the hottest part of the day. We don't have a working A/C in the truck so it's windows down and wind through our hair, which is another difference.  I'm embracing all of the differences and the unknowns the best I can and working on making memories in the process. Please keep us in your prayers as we travel.
