Independence Day in our Nation’s Capital

We woke up Wednesday morning and donned our red, white and blue, ready for the day. We went downstairs to eat breakfast and were surprised to see Kristy and Chase Fuell along with David, Amanda and Logan Weeks! What a small world! We hopped on the Metro to ride into D.C.

The first thing we did was walk down Constitution Avenue and find a place to wait for the parade to start.  This was by far the biggest and longest parade I’ve ever seen!   It was well over an hour long.  It was awesome!

Because it was Independence Day, we weren’t able to get to several places. One of them was up close to the White House. I did snap a picture from one of the gates we walked beside. I was bummed because the DAR Headquarters was closed as well. And the WWII Memorial was roped off. We are hoping to see those later in our trip. Here’s a few of the sites we saw while we were in D.C.

We were getting pretty tired as evening neared.  And hungry.  Half of us wanted to go back to the hotel. So they did.  Annessa and I stayed to try to see the Capitol Fourth concert and the fireworks.  I’ll post more about it in the next post.

Leaving Philly

When we woke up on Tuesday morning, sadly we had no running water at our hotel.  We readied ourselves the best we could and walked to the museum district of Philadelphia.  We made it to the museum of arts and did our best Rocky impersonations but it was extremely hot and we were spent by that time.  We decided to call an Uber to get us back to the hotel.  Still no water.  So we made some phone calls and decided to go ahead and leave Philly a day early and go on to Washington D.C.

Below are some pictures of what we saw on our morning walk before leaving and on the drive to DC.

We arrived in Alexandria on Tuesday afternoon around 4 pm local time.  Our hotel sits right behind the George Washington Masonic National Memorial.  And across from the King Street Metro station.  We will use the Metro to ride into the city.
